His work is never predictable, nor does it (contrary to the assumption of some) reflect absolutely the Artist's changeable moods. A red painting may not necessarily indicate anger, nor does a canvas in sombre hues betray a 'dark night of the soul'. The Yin and Yang of creation is far more mysterious than that. Haydn feels that paintings tend to be channelled, using the artist as a mouthpiece, rather than being deliberately 'made' by the artist. A painting has a life of its own; it may take itself, during the hours, weeks, or months of its gestation and creation, wheresoever it will, the painter following its often capricious lead with fascination.
