Ihar Barkhatkou is an artist inspired by music – R. Wagner, D. Shostakovich, F. Schubert. He perceives music as an unquenchable force which can be the basis of contemporary art. Thus, the energy that distinguishes his pieces should be attributed to the anxiety that develops in the creative process whenever a brush or pencil accompanied by music touches the paper/canvas.
Works of I. Barkhatkou possess neither specific measure nor boundaries but only a whimsical form and its position in space. By rejecting mannerisms, structuring and even professionalism, using ragged strokes, the artist shows an example of the spatial truth of art by filling all the shapes he depicts with anxiety and life. The artistic means by which something transpires from these works completely ignore hierarchies and classifications. Both color and drawing serve the only goal of the artist which is the development of artistic Vision. By interpreting color as a kind of universal language, the artist strives to master a new vision, a vision that studies the very logic of the form. His objects evolve into an absolute pulse that beats beyond the contours, setting in motion even empty sections of the canvas. His works challenge us to see through, to see, apart from the image itself, the formation and gradual unfolding of the space in its totality.
