Walter Gordon is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Originally a native of Chicago he relocated to Alexandria, Virginia. His work is primarily in the genre of realistic/figurative art and especially portraiture.

My work concentrates on the experience of the viewer in interacting with art. It examines the experience of ways of seeing and is intended to induce the audience to reflect on themselves. Hence a central theme in my work is the concepts of anxiety, disquiet, and fear, as these feelings are more apt to unsettle the viewer from familiarity with the world. As a consequence I think it is important that my art be done in a figurative fashion so that it uses a visual language readily accessible to the average person. Drawing on traditions of realism and expressionism my art focuses as its subject modern life and the the place of the individual in it.
