Surreal Pond Dream is an inverted reflection of part of a pond. Things in the "sky" are natural organic debris, floating on the surface of the pond. I think this image looks like a pond in a dream: somewhat beautiful but a bit surreal. Also, it is interesting how, after inversion, the actual solid far-shore objects (at the bottom of the inverted photo) look as if they are water reflections. Location: The Nature Preserve in the Autal, a charming mini-valley that is part of the Village of Riehen BS Switzerland where I live.

Dan is a mostly-retired bioengineering scientist and a long-time photographer. He is a dual USA and Swiss citizen, living in Canton Basel since 2000. He used to take lots of full-frame 35 mm film photos but got tired of the film/print process and slacked off. In 2002, digital cameras got him clicking again. Dan has had a couple of shows, but since ca. 2013 has generally just posted to Flickr. Why? A nice level of Flickr feedback keeps him motivated. As of mid-June 2018, his ca. 1500 photos on Flickr have received over a million views. He does not pursue views. It just seems to happen. His most-clicke Flickr photo has received over 52,000 views.

Puddle Trees is an inverted reflection of part of a small, asphalt-surrounded mud puddle, located at my feet. It shows trees reflected in it. The dramatic lighting stems from the extremely bright sunlight reflected by the asphalt. Location: A footpath at the bottom of the Moostal (Moss Valley), a rural farm and pasture area in the Village of Riehen, BS Switzerland.

Currently, Dan mostly photographs near home in northwest Switzerland, and in nearby parts of France (e.g. Alsace) and Germany (e.g. Black Forest). Subjects: anything that might make a beautiful, evocative, funny or intriguing image. One theme: everyday things from a special POV or that tell a little story. He strives for good composition. For internet use or small prints (e.g. A4 = 220x297 mm) Dan sees full-frame 35 mm cameras as overkill. He uses APS-C format cameras and even little super-zoom bridge cameras. The latter can provide images having amazingly sharp details.

Fire & Ice is an inverted reflection of part of a pond. The FIRE is the sun (upper right corner). It had only melted the ICE in one-half of the pond, so the reflection of the trees stops where the ice starts. Location: The Nature Preserve in the Autal, a charming mini-valley that is part of the Village of Riehen BS Switzerland where I live.
