For almost 17 years now I’ve been living in Utrecht the Netherlands. My passion consists of my own artwork and illustration projects. To finance my passion and to pay the rent for the studio, I try to make some extra money as a web designer and visual designer.
Usually when I work on my own stuff I try to focus on my gut feeling. Most of the time i don’t work according to a plan because I like to improvise and let my inspiration go. I love it when during the work the drawing takes over and leads itself to the final result. When I do portraits I like to give them a twist and aim for the final result to be a (pleasantly) ambiguous picture. I also like to create a tension between a happy or sad drawing and make them a bit of both.
I admit that there is no big ’theme’ or story behind my drawings merely a collection feelings, frustrations and my own sense of humor. I think humor is a very important element and of course that the end-result should radiate an energy by itself just for being what it is. One of my inspirations could be the concept of an identity and how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us. Having multiple layers of a single ‘identity’. And I like to combine that with themes like: isolation, body-horror and my own sense of humor. Apart from the activities mentioned above I also form a duo with a friend and make electronic music together. We like to call ourselves ‘Glitterkots en de Nasmaak’ which roughly translates to “Glittervomit and the aftertaste”.
