Visual designer and illustrator Yushin Kato

Don’t Look at Me - Most of my personal work stems from challenges I’ve struggled with growing up. This piece touches on self-image and self-worth, something I think a lot of people have had to grapple with at some point in their lives.

My name is Yushin Kato. I am a visual designer and illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. Professionally I create commercial work, mostly digital design with occasional illustrations if given the opportunity. My personal work serves as a means of emotional expression. It is my way to gain a deeper understanding of my identity and how I relate to the world around me.

My Body is Full of Poison - This piece was actually an adaptation of an older illustration I did a few years ago. At the time, I was going through some pretty bad depression and I could feel all the negative energy inside of me affecting my physical health in addition to my emotional health. It just felt like everything inside of me was toxic.

Grace - This was actually done as part of the 36 Days of Type (which I shamefully never finished). In this series I wanted to focus on figure studies while also developing a minimal style using delicate line work and playing with positive and negative space.
